A DOMESTIC FRIEND CELEBRATES 10 YEARS
BUCKHANNON, WV – When Sharon Ours established A Domestic Friend, after working for Shop and Save Supermarket for nineteen years, she had no idea that her life long dream would become a lasting reality. A Domestic Friend opened for service in August of 1999. It began as a way for Sharon to provide in-home care as an alternative to boarding animals. Being a service that the Buckhannon area did not have, Sharon knew it would be a great opportunity to provide this option for pet owners like her self. “I know how much I love my own animals and how convenient it is for them to stay at home while I am away,” Sharon said, “It just made sense to me to start a pet sitting service.”
After 3 years of providing in-home pet sitting, Sharon decided to expand her business and become an independent distributor for the nationally known pet food product – Flint River Ranch. An all natural oven baked health food for your pets that Sharon personally uses. This decision was not only beneficial for her pets, but for her business as well With this addition, her services expanded out of the local area and A Domestic Friend currently has over 500 clients nationwide.
Sharon also became a representative for Pharmanex in 2003. The LifePak brand of clinically proven supplements and the Nu Skin health and beauty products were a welcome addition to her services. In recent years, Sheba, Sharon’s 11 year old Rottweiler mix rescue dog, was diagnosed with several different ailments. Sharon immediately started Sheba on some of the supplements and to the veterinarian’s surprise; she is now cured and exceptionally healthy.
A Domestic Friend is bonded and insured, a member of Pet Sitting International, a member of the CERT K-9 Unit in Weston, WV, and a member of the Buckhannon Upshur Retail Merchants Association. Sharon also works at Wal-Mart in Buckhannon and her husband Bob is a retiree from Union Carbide and is a member of the Buckhannon Moose Lodge.
